Imam Firoz provides spiritually grounded, compassionate pastoral support, drawing from his work as Imam and his experience in counselling, community guidance, and Islamic education. He helps ensure the Listening Space reflects Islamic ethics, care, and sincerity.

Trained Listener & Listening Line Co-ordinator

Munim supports callers with calm, values-driven listening and coordinates the overall structure of The Listening Space.
He brings extensive experience in community grassroots work, volunteer development, leadership roles within Muslim institutions, and Islamic counselling settings.
His background in safe community compliance and ethical support systems ensures the service remains grounded, safe, and accessible.

Sr. Shumi
Trained Listener & Mental Health Therapist
Co-founder, Modular Ummah
Shumi brings professional therapeutic training and deep community experience. She is highly experienced in community grassroots work, women’s leadership, voluntary service, and supporting individuals in both listening-line and Islamic counselling contexts.
She offers gentle, trauma-aware listening and helps shape a space where people feel safe, understood, and supported with dignity.
Guidelines for Using The Listening Space
The Listening Space is designed as a calm, supportive, and values-led environment for volunteers and community workers. To ensure a safe and meaningful experience for everyone:
Respect for All: Speak and listen with respect. Harassment, discrimination, or abusive behaviour is not tolerated.
Focus on Reflection: This space is for pausing, reflecting, and sharing personal experiences, not for problem-solving, counselling, or giving professional advice.
Boundaries: Listeners may offer gentle guidance or signposting to resources, but they do not provide counselling or therapeutic interventions.
What to Expect
When you use The Listening Space:
You will be supported by trained listeners, imams, chaplains, and therapists who understand the realities of community work.
Sessions are 30 minutes, free, and confidential.
You can share what is hard to speak about, burnout, spiritual fatigue, team tensions, or challenges in your community work.
You are not required to prepare anything. Simply arrive as you are.
Vulnerability and Confidentiality
We recognise that discussing personal experiences may involve vulnerability.
Confidentiality: What you share stays private within the Listening Space team, except where required by law (e.g., risk of harm to self or others).
Safe Sharing: You are encouraged to share freely but only disclose what you feel comfortable with.
Data Protection
Your personal information is protected in line with data protection laws (GDPR).
We collect minimal information needed to schedule and provide your session.
Your data will not be shared with third parties for marketing or other purposes.
You can request access to or deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.
Legal Notice
The Listening Space is not a counselling or therapeutic service.
No advice, diagnosis, or treatment is provided.
Participation is voluntary, and attendees are responsible for their own medical wellbeing.
In cases where you may be in immediate danger or crisis, please contact appropriate emergency services.
